(STATEN ISLAND, NY) - Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11) today announced the Department of Health and Human Services will award the Richmond University Medical Center (RUMC) $2,387,311 in federal grants. The funds are part of the Head Start and Early Start Programs and will be used for educational resources and healthcare services. In Congress, Malliotakis has been focused on expanding healthcare services and advocated for this funding appropriation.

"RUMC is such an important institution in our community, focusing on bringing health, wellness, and prevention services to Staten Islanders," said Congresswoman Malliotakis. "I'm happy to have secured this funding for the doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals at RUMC so that they can better service children and their families in the areas of health, nutrition, and education."

"I want to thank Congresswoman Malliotakis for ensuring continued federal support for our Head Start program and protecting the critical educational services it provides for families on Staten Island," said President and Chief Executive Officer, Daniel J. Messina, PhD. FACHE. "We are proud to be providers of Staten Island's first Head Start program, which is also the first Head Start program in the country to be provided through the support and administration of a full-service hospital. The federal support secured by Congresswoman Malliotakis, who has been a tremendous supporter of RUMC over the years, will help with daily operations at our four Head Start sites on Staten Island, including learning materials and equipment to assist the children as they embark on their educational journey."
